Wrongful Death Claims

Committed To Bringing Your Family Peace Of Mind During The Most Tragic of Times

Losing someone you love is hard enough. When a beloved spouse or family member is killed due to another person’s carelessness, the grief is even harder to bear. At Nugent & Bryant, we realize that no one can ever really understand the pain of such a tragic event. As wrongful death attorneys, however, we can help you obtain justice for your loved one’s death.

Some law firms attempt to grab whatever cases come their way. Not at Nugent & Bryant. We firmly believe that grieving families deserve nothing but the best legal advocates. Because of this philosophy, our practice is confined to areas of law in which we have in-depth knowledge and experience. We have spent years learning the ins and outs of wrongful death practice and procedure. We know the common causes of wrongful death – such as car wrecks and trucking accidents – which means we are quickly able to assess cases in order to seek compensation efficiently. When you hire us to be your wrongful death lawyers, you can rest easy in the knowledge that we know what we are doing and we know how to get results.

Compassion For Families In Mourning

When a promising life is cut short, we are here to provide compassionate legal guidance. At Nugent & Bryant, our approach is client-focused. When we take on a case, we take on a relationship with people who we will come to know, appreciate and value. Our legal team works one on one with each client to make sure the families we represent understand their rights and options. A big part of our approach includes being accessible to our clients. Whenever you need us, we are available to answer your questions, address your concerns and give you reassurance when you need it most.

What Is Wrongful Death?

When a person is killed because someone else acted negligently or carelessly, the law considers it a wrongful death. Because it is difficult to prove that another person’s conduct caused a death, bringing a successful wrongful death case is a complex legal process that requires a thorough knowledge of the law.

Connecticut law requires the presence of four elements to prove a wrongful death claim. You must be able to show the following:

  • The death was caused either in part or wholly by another person or entity, such as a company
  • The person who caused the accident acted negligently or carelessly
  • The deceased’s surviving family members have been impacted by the loss
  • The survivors have been financially damaged because of the death

Before survivors can bring a wrongful death lawsuit, they must first choose a personal representative to act on behalf of the deceased’s estate. If the decedent had a will, this individual is called an executor. If the person died without a will, the personal representative is known as an administrator. Because we also handle probate and estate matters, we can help you through the probate process.

Helping Our Clients Receive Fair Compensation For Their Losses

Although no financial recovery will ever replace a person, wrongful death damages can ease the burden of medical bills, funeral expenses and other losses. When you are grieving, the last thing you need to worry about is how you are going to pay the bills. At Nugent & Bryant, we hold accountable the people and corporations that caused the losses and grief. Under Connecticut law, economic damages include medical costs, funeral bills, loss of the decedent’s earning ability and other actual expenses. Noneconomic damages include pain and suffering, loss of companionship, and loss of enjoyment of life.

If you have lost someone due to another person’s negligence, you do not have to shoulder the financial and emotional consequences alone. We can help you explore your options. Contact our office today at 203-795-1111 or in an email to discuss your case.
